THE POP EXPOSE 'Sgt. Slaughter' by Mitchell Smith!
Sgt Slaughter was born Robert Remus in 1948. Slaughter was a huge part of the wrestling world including the Hey days of the WWF and wildly popular with the GI Joe franchise, and also had a spot in the Super Mario Brothers Show. Slaughter was born in Detroit, Michigan, but he was raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He joined the Marine Corp and become a drill instructor at Paris Island, SC.

This training came in very handy in the wrestling world as well as his roll in GI Joe. Slaughter had quite a stint in the wrestling world spending time in the WWF, NWA, and AWA. He was like a yo-yo leaving and returning 3 times to the WWF. Nevertheless, he was part of the WWF heyday with huge stars such as Hulk Hogan, Jimmy Superfly Snuka, and the Iron Sheik. Along with the WWF came a number of figures, most modern was the 6 inch figure from earlier this year in traditional uniform including his signature glasses and drill instructor hat. Slaughter was also a huge part of the GI Joe franchise, he played a huge part in the success of the 1987 GI Joe movie, and in the animated series.

Sgt Slaughter had a number of figures and also came with his signature unique vehicle, but one of his coolest figures came with a removable drill hat and a great vehicle the Warthog. I had one of these as a kid and it got hours upon hours of play time. Slaughter even had is own sub team Slaughter’s Marauders. Slaughter really was a staple guy in the 80’s and has hung around to be popular with wrestling and GI Joe fans alike. He was active up to 2014 when he retired, but he still does make guest appearances at events such as Comic Con. He is a staple, he is a legend, he is an action figure, one of my all time favorites.
