Steven Allerick cast as Snake Eyes' father
From Deadline.com
https://deadline.com/2019/12/snake-eyes-g-i-joe-steven-allerick-cast-as-father-1202798566/

Steven Allerick from The Expanse has been cast as Snake Eyes' father.

Quote:
The movie, directed by Robert Schwentke is scheduled to open Oct. 16, 2020. The G.I. Joe spinoff follows Snake Eyes, who while on the hunt for the man who murdered his father, travels to Japan and trains with the ancient Arashikage ninja clan. Allerick joins a cast that includes Henry Golding as Snake Eyes, Samara Weaving as Scarlett, Ursula Corbero as The Baroness, and Andrew Koji as Snake Eyes’ brother and enemy, the ninja Storm Shadow.

In the original comic run Snake Eyes ' father was killed in a car crash with his mother and twin sister.
This is a new and complete departure from the original story.
What else will be changed from the story we know?

This is shaping up to be completely different in many ways.

Thanks for posting the news on this skinny!

I hope the story is interesting.

To me, one of the great things about G.I.Joe is that every time you set up your figures, you can create a new story.
Granted, some of our stories are shaped loosely by comics or cartoons. Some aren't.

And I can enjoy a story you create, and you can enjoy a story I create. We can do this without impacting each other's stories. And we can have fun!

Some people will fixate on differences from comic canon. Others will just look to see if the story is interesting or not.

I hope it is!

Yeah my needle is moving closer to your take on this the closer we get to the movie. I just really hope it is a 'good' movie and not another failure like the first two joe movies. If we ever want to see anything G.I.Joe retro style for the 'man child' fans, the movie and subsequent movie toy line has to sell big.

Some see the glass half empty.
Some see the glass half full.

Some are thankful we have a cup with free refills.

I'm tired, and I think that sounded funnier in my mind than it did when I typed it.

My point is, I'm happier there is movie news rather than a statement that filming will be postponed and the studio has shelved it.

Obscure origins trivia: We know the Hard and Soft Masters were Storm Shadow's uncles. What about his actual parents? The comic said he was of Japanese/American descent.

Whose brothers were the ninjas? Mom or Dad's side?
What happened to them?

Feel free to point out where I should read more about his back story. Thanks!

I agree, unless this is a total flop it will get the brand name out there again and get more people thinking about it.

What would be great is if it is enough of a hit to spawn a spinoff cartoon (either online, streaming, or webisodes)

Get Movie in production
> Start selling movie toys...
>> if Movie is successful, roll out a cartoon with "further adventures..."
>>> Re-use tooling to sell cartoon themed toys, and maintain/expand sales momentum.
********** Then, possibly consider selling retro toys like they did for Star Wars.

I don't even want to think this ---> If the movie is not successful, everything ends with a first or second wave of movie themed toys.
