Outback's Outpost 'G.I.Joe Low Light' By Mitchell Smith!
Welcome to the Outpost. Today I’m going back to 1986. There were a ton of awesome G.I.Joe characters created this year. Low-Light is one I received for Christmas that year. He is a very unique Character and appeared frequently in the cartoon. Low-Light is in an episode that revealed his dark side and some of his fears that had haunted him for many years. I loved the creation of his back story and I could associate to that no character. His original figure is just pure gold.

He just looks great from head to toe and has a really nice pack and rifle. Low-Light has had several upgrades over the years including a really nice modern figure that was true to the original. I love both of these versions the best out of all of them. I think this should definitely be on the table for 6 inch figures and this may be one I have to customize a 12 inch figure. All in all this Low-light slides into my top 10 for all time Joe figures. Who is a fan of Low-Light? Who is your favorite 1986 character? Sound off below and let us know! Make sure to check back for our next discussion.

Im going to throw a monkey wrench in this whole discussion. I never had the first version of low light growing up. However, i did get the 1991 Low Light as soon as it hit shelves. And that figure got a ton of play time. I loved his face camo and the fact that his knife and flashlight came off of his backpack. Then my second favorite Low Light is the Marauders one because he was pretty cool in Operation Dragonfire, which i also was a big fan of when i was a kid.

My big problem with the character to this day is trying to decide if he was just putting sun in in his hair back in the 80s or how his hair turned from blonde to black.

I love this version and I do own one, next question is how did his hair go back blond as a Dino Hunter, maybe he is a spokesman for Just for Men

It is funny, I only had the blonde first version, and then the DTC or VvV version based on that one in the early 2000's.

Maybe he worried the light hair which catch some moonlight and give him away and he just used the eye black, or face camo and smeared it through his hair for eliminating any chances...

Or like what Train said, he might have been experimenting:

I used Downtown's head and some 25th or maybe those DTC goggles to make a hatless version with a less wide face.

I really love this mashup, just a great combination of parts.

Oh, and just checking...I think the original Low Light came with a small Uzi as well as a long rifle. I'm pretty sure I got him and Mainframe the same day. I always assumed Mainframe came with that Uzi.

But I must have given that sidearm to Mainframe on day 1, and I just assumed he came with it.

Memory can play tricks on us over time!! :D

I was like woah wait a minute Low Light has an Uzi? I guess i didn't even realize it. And its the same awesome one that comes with Law that you can put a string in the holes for a strap.

I think if my Low-Light ever handled the Uzi, it was to hand it to Mainframe to cover him while he climbs to a good position.
