Outback's Outpost 'G.I.Joe Tripwire' By Mitchell Smith!
Welcome to the Outpost. Today I’m getting into another classic 1983 G.I.Joe figure, Tripwire. With a name like Tormod S. Skoog your bound to end up doing something no one else wants to do. Tripwire was the mine detector and his secondary specialty is demolition. Something I’m not sure he was used for in the cartoon. Tripwire is a cool character and he really wasn’t used a ton.

I think Tripwire should have been carried over a bit and maybe got an upgrade in the late eighties or nineties. Yes he had a Tiger Force figure but I think he could have had a cool nineties upgrade. Tripwire did get a 2008 modern figure that was pretty true to his original figure. This is one of my favorite figures. He looks very cool and would have been cool with a removable helmet.

If you are careful you can bore this one out and do a head swap. All in all this is a great character and I would love to see more of Tripwire. Who else loves Tripwire? Where does Tripwire rank on your list of favorite joes? Let us know below! Make sure to check back for our next discussion.

Tripwire is a great character, having a clutsie guy as the bomb specialist is pretty funny. Unfortunately for toy collectors he has a glass crotch. I never have understood why some figures were designed that way.

Which is only ironic, since Tripwire has molded Kevlar that is supposed to protect his central waist.

I had a straight-arm Steeler who suffered a terrible shoulder separation. Had I known the power of super glue, I would have tried to reattach the joint. But I was afraid it would never be the same.

Steeler's loss was Tripwire's gain, and my Tripwire has the thick and mighty 1982 loins of a once proud Steeler.

Ironically, Tripwire's right leg was donated later to Zartan. I successfully transplanted Tripwire's right leg without separating Zartan's torso. I felt the power of Proto's surgical skills that day. That Zartan still has his original O-ring, but he has been through unimaginable pain and suffering. (I didn't even offer him morphine during the surgery.)

So Tripwire is a cool character, but a super fragile action figure.

Don't put him on a figure stand.
You'll break his ankles faster than a Michael Jordan crossover dribble.

Oddly my trip wires are fine after all these years only missing his gear. I actually got a listen n fun tripwire from a garage sale as a kid. He's still super minty no nose rub or paint ware, but as the rest of my trip wires he has no gear. If any one has extra gear for any of the 3 classic tripwire let me know. On a side note my original zartan had a glass crotch, I replaced it with a fun skool zartan crotch with out needing to pry him appart. A long hook thing is a great Joe tool to have in the Joe tool box.
